If you have any programme suggestions for the fanfic stream at the convention, please leave them in comments below. Anon posting is enabled; make sure you're logged out if you want to be anonymous. Either fully-formed programme items or vague ideas are welcome.
If you'd like to be on fanfic programme, please leave a comment and let us know your areas of interest. You'll need to identify yourself for this, but you don't need a dreamwidth or LJ account. Just tell us your badge name.
You can also email fanfic@nineworlds.co.uk.
We can't promise to use every idea or find a spot for everyone, but we'll do our absolute best.
If you have suggestions for other tracks, but you're not sure where they belong, you can leave those here too and we'll pass them on. Tracks are not yet finalised so it may take a while to sort out, but we will make sure someone considers every idea.
Thank you!

17/3/14 22:27 (UTC)One panel I did have the idea for would be a panel aimed at easing interaction between creators and fans. For example, how to respond to fanfiction/fanart for the thing you have created, what to get involved with and what not to (eg. avoid giving opinions on ships). How fans can love your creation and still be critical of it.

18/3/14 14:55 (UTC)I don't know if the first two ideas fit for fanfic stream, but considering there was a vidding session in it last year, and that there is not fanvidding stream itself from what I heard when I enquired earlier in the year then I figure here is the best place for them.
1) Some vidding sessions in general would be cool to have, as the one last year was good, but if sticking to more narrative based for the fic'ness of the stream...How about a panel showing/discussing use of fanvids that are fanfic trailers and/or AU from canon, therefore being used to tell a specific story like fanfic but in a different format.
2) Not sure if this is something fanfic stream would want to take on as I imagine it'd be quite some effort, even if fanvids do fit best there, but it would be awesome to have a disco one of the evenings/nights much like Club Vivid at Vividdcon i.e. fanvid playlist of vids to dancey songs so people can watch and/or dance along.
3) A fic panel about genderswap and genderbent stories might be pretty interesting to do, as well as potentially some crossover there with feminism track given some people's reasons for rewriting characters that way.
4) Something about fanfic and video games for an intersectional panel? I think writing fic for games tends to be rarer as there is much lesser in fandom size for games, but also perhaps that's due to unique challenges of writing fic for games, like often more action orientated or things like personalised character. E.g. the whole your Commander Shepard (from Mass Effect) is never the same as someone else's Commander Shepard, so how do you write for that and how does it change fannish engagement in those fandoms. In short I'm sure there's some mileage in discussion of fannish works for games fandoms.
5) Something on the relatively newer trend in fandom for remixing others' works and permissions in fandom. Perhaps looking at etiquette of remixing works as there is differing opinions there (on if you need to ask/inform original fanwork creator or not), plus the way that is sometimes ironic/in contrast with the essential remix nature of fanfic itself and how we generally never tend to get permission from original creators.
6) Fanfic and legitimacy could be a fascinating topic for a discussion. A look at oral retellings of mythology once being common and how things have changed in an ownership model more and more, making things like fanfic seem to go against business/saleability of works these days. Tying in the complication of that by things like new Sherlock for example, and many Sherlock spinoffs/spoofs over the years, where they are essentially transformative of an 'original' story in a similar way to fanfic but seen as more legitimate because it is commercial/'more professional'.
7) Something about betareading could be a useful panel too. Sort of 101 on why use one, importance of it, and how to be a good betareader too?

19/3/14 21:58 (UTC)I've put all your suggestions on the masterlist (either on their own if new, or as input to existing ideas). I can't promise we'll do all of them, but I think I can promise you'll see at least some of them reflected in the final programme. Thanks so much for taking the time to think this out, it's really great input.
And thank you for your offer of help. One or two things we're planning are quite complicated, and might need some admin support either before or at the con. I've made a note of your name to approach for that, if needed. It will absolutely be fine to say no if you're not up to it at the time, of course.
